What rights does a person have if their picture was taken and then posted to an Internet website without permission? Is the person entitled to any of the website's profit? Can the person sue if the picture was uncomplimentary?

Answer:

You can stop a website's use of your image for three reasons: invasion of privacy, violation of right of publicity, or defamation.

Invasion of privacy can occur if you are portrayed falsely and in a highly offensive manner. মাওলানা শাহ্ আহমদ শফী বাংলাদেশের কওমী মাদ্রাসাকেন্দ্রিক জগতে নানান কারণেই আলোচিত ও শ্রদ্ধেয় ব্যক্তিত্বের ভূমিকায় নিজেকে তুলে ধরেছিলেন। দেশের অন্যতম প্রাচীন ও বৃহত্তম মাদ্রাসার তিনি প্রধানতম ব্যক্তি। কওমী মাদ্রাসাকেন্দ্রিক বহু প্রতিষ্ঠান ও ব্যক্তি যখন ক্ষমতার লোভ, দুর্নীতি এবং রাজনৈতিক শক্তির লাঠিয়ালে পরিণত হয়ে অন্তর্কলহ, পারস্পরিক অবিশ্বাস এবং ক্ষমতার বাটোয়ারায় লিপ্ততার কারণে নিজেদের মাঝেই গ্রহণযোগ্যতা হারিয়ে ফেলেছিলো, তখন মাওলানা শফীকে পক্ষ ও দল নির্বিশেষে ওই জগতের প্রায় সকলেই এসবের উর্ধে দেখতে পছন্দ করতেন। দেশের আর একটি পুরাতন ও শীর্ষস্থানীয় ধর্মশিক্ষার প্রতিষ্ঠান লালবাগ মাদ্রাসা এই প্রক্রিয়াতেই তার এককালীন কেন্দ্রীয় ও গ্রহণযোগ্য ভাবমূর্তি আর ধরে রাখতে সক্ষম হয়নি। আবার, মাদ্রাসার বাইরের বাস্তব দুনিয়া যতদূর এগিয়েছে তাতে মাদ্রাসাকেন্দ্রিক শিক্ষাব্যবস্থার বাইরের যে কোন ব্যক্তির কাছেই আধুনিক রাষ্ট্র, শিক্ষাব্যবস্থা ও নারী-পুরুষ সম্পর্ক বিষয়ক মাওলানা শফীর অধিকাংশ মতই অবাস্তব ও অগ্রহণযোগ্য মনে হবে, কিন্তু যে দৃঢ়তা ও অনমনীয়তার সাথে তিনি তার এই অনেকটাই ‘অরাজনৈতিক’ এবং ‘সনাতনী ঐতিহ্যপন্থী’ ভূ ... বাংলাদেশীদের সাথে চায়নিজদের বৈষম্যমূলক আচরণ

- আমরা ১৯৭১ সালে স্বাধীনতা লাভ করেছি পাকিস্তান থেকে তারপরও একরকম জোর করে চায়নীজরা আমাদেরকে পাকিস্তানি বলে। চায়নার সাথে যেহেতু পাকিস্তানের সম্পর্ক ভালো তাই তারা বাংলাদেশকে মেনে নিতে পারেনি আজ পর্যন্ত।
- আমাদের ধর্ম নিয়ে জোর খাটিয়ে অবমাননা করা হয়।
- তারা আমাদের গায়ের রং তাদের থেকে কালো বলে আমাদেরকে ছোটলোকের মত আচরণ করে। অপেক্ষাকৃত আমাদের দেশ অর্থনৈতিকভাবে সচ্চল নয় বলে, আমাদেরকে সবসময় অবজ্ঞা করা হয়, এবং অবহেলার চোখে দেখা হয়।
- তারপর গোয়াংডং প্রদেশেবাসীরা কথা বলে গোয়াংডং ভাষায় (ক্যান্টনিজ), তাই তাদের সাথে চায়নিজ বা স্ট্যান্ডার্ড চায়নিজ ভাষায় কথা বললে আমাদের দেশ ও জাতিকে অবমাননা করে বিভিন্ন নিচু কথা বলে থাকে।
- আমাদের দেশ অর্থনৈতিক ভাবে সচ্চল নয় বলে আমাদেরকে খুবই নিচু চোখে দেখা হয়।
- চায়নিজদের মধ্যে ৯০% চায়নিজ বাংলাদেশীদের সাথে এই ধরনের আচরণ করে থাকে।
- তারা আমাদের সংস্কৃতিকে হেয়প্রতিপন্ন করে থাকে যাচ্ছেতাই ভাবে।

Department of Justice Seeks to Recover Approximately $3 Million in Illegal Proceeds from Foreign Bribe Payments

WASHINGTON—The Department of Justice has filed a forfeiture action against accounts worth nearly $3 million that are alleged to be the proceeds of a wide-ranging conspiracy to bribe public officials in Bangladesh and their family members in connection with various public work projects, Acting Assistant Attorney General Matthew Friedrich of the Criminal Division announced today.

The forfeiture action was filed Jan. 8, 2009 , in U.S. District Court in the District of Columbia against funds located in Singapore held by multiple account holders. The forfeiture complaint relates primarily to alleged bribes paid to Arafat "Koko" Rahman, the son of the former prime minister of Bangladesh , in connection with public works projects awarded by the government of Bangladesh to Siemens AG and China Harbor Engineering Company.
